This year’s recruitment was a success, like always! On September 13, 2009, Eta Omicron extended bids to 23 wonderful young women. We could not be more excited with the results of this year’s recruitment!

With recruitment just around the corner, the women of Eta Omicron are getting really excited!Formal recruitment is set to take place on September 9-12 and for Bid Day to take place on September 13.

The times and set-up times are as followed:

September 9 & 10th:Set-up time is at 5:00 & the party starts at 7:00!

September 11th:Set up time is at 3:30 & the party starts at 5:30!

September 12th:Set up time is at 3:00 & the party starts at 5:00!

Welcome Back!!

The women of Eta Omicron would like to officially welcome everyone back to school! We hope that you had a wonderful summer and you are looking forward to an exciting new school year.

With recruitment coming up, all of the girls have been working hard to get the DG name out on campus. Sisters have been chalking sidewalks, cutting out anchors, creating cute signs for their apartment doors, car chalking their vehicles, and wearing our letters everywhere we go. Obviously, we cannot wait to share our sisterhood with fabulous new sisters.

Future Plans: Stephen plans to graduate in a year and half with a Bachelor Degree in IT networking and plans to Intern at Hallmark Headquarters during the summer of 2010. He hopes to one day be a Network Analysis for a large company.

Second Annual Anchorslam

April 4, 2009 was a very busy day for the women of Eta Omicron as they hosted their second annual Anchorslam. Anchorslam is a 3-on-3 basketball tournament hosted by the Delta Gamma's in order to raise money for their philanthropy, Service for Sight. Over 10 teams participated in the tournament with the championship game being played between team "Zebras" (Brian Evans, Johnathon Dean, and Luke Folkerts) and team "PFG" (Matt Belk, Matthew McSpadden, Brock Peters and Dallas Smith.) PFG came away with the title of Anchorslam Champs and received gift cards to Academy for their win. The runners-up, the Zebras, also received gift cards for their 2nd place finish.

Delta Gamma was also very excited to get to visit with some of the alumnae who attended this event. A special thank you goes out to Judy Englehart for all of her help with the planning of Anchorslam and her help at the event. This day would not have been as successful if it were not for her support. Delta Gamma was also very excited to have the support of Steff Jones and her three wonderful little boys. We are so glad that you all could share in this big day.





Overall, Delta Gamma raised over $1300 to send to Service for Sight! Way to go girls!

Kyle Reed

Major: Biology (Pre-Med), Freshman

Hometown: Lincoln, Arkansas- famous for the Apple Festival

Interests: Basketball, Atlanta Braves Baseball, Anything at the Lake, Traveling, and Hanging with Friends.

Activities: Chancellor’s Leadership Council, University Student Ambassadors-Intramural Chairman, SCOPE-Vice President, and Sigma Nu Judicial Board

Future Plans: After graduating college Kyle plans on attending medical school and hopes to either become a pediatrician or a clinical pharmacist.

Involvement with Sigma Nu: Kyle is on the Social Committee and enjoys getting to help plan brotherhood events as well as socials. Despite it being Kyle's first year, he have already had a lot of great experiences, such as: becoming an official chapter, winning Homecoming Week, and just hanging out with his brothers.

" I have had a lot of fun times with all of my sisters here, wish I could have had a chance to know some of you guys a little better, but at least we all met. I have met a couple of my best friends here and gained a ton of great friendships! I will miss everyone when I leave for Austin, TX. But, hopefully I'll have a lot of visitors coming to see me down there! Some of my favorite moments were when my class and I were first getting to know one another. Everyone opened up and had no secrets to hide, we were all so welcoming to each other and that was so comporting! I wish that I could have been able to do that with the rest of the classes. I hope you all will keep this chapter so wonderful and amazing, I know you all will. Keep in touch!"

Spring Break!

I hope everyone enjoys their Spring Break and remember to be safe!

DG's go green for St. Patty's Day

This St. Patrick's Day was one unlike any other for the DeeGees. This year they attended the St. Patrick's Day Dance hosted by IFC. They set up a dance floor, provided lots of good food, and had inflatible games like basketball and sumo wrestling. All around, it was a great way for the DeeGee's to enjoy their St. Patrick's Day with the rest of the Greeks.

Founders Day 2009

As many DeeGees made their way up the hill to the Alpha Omega house in the rain, many memories were made. Many girls were still applying make up, practicing our songs, and laughing all the while. This day was a wonderful day that we will never forget.

The 2009 Delta Gamma Founders Day was such a success. This was an emotional day for many as well. Seniors begin to turn another page in their life as they graduate from college and sadly enough, Delta Gamma. Also, this day was the end of our lovely CAC Kate’s time with Eta Omicron. Several have developed a bond with Kate that we will cherish forever. Touring the Alpha Omega house was an enlightening experience that nonetheless made us a tad jealous of what we don’t have here at UA Fort Smith.

What an honor it was to sit next to the alumni of our wonderful organization—our sisters. Two 50- year members of Delta Gamma were present & received awards. It is amazing to see the deep heritage DG has & it gives us goals to work toward for our future.

A special thanks to all of those who helped organize and plan for Founders Day. VP Foundation Meagan Bowling did an awesome job. And thanks to her crew as well!

Our advisers worked so hard to make yesterday a success as well. All the work advisers often go without thanks. Eta Omicron truly appreciates what you all do for us continually. We dedicate the following poem to you.

Advisor Appreciation Month

This post was written by Ashley Stevenson for her advisor, Ann Truit.

In light of March being Advisor Appreciation Month, I thought I would take this time to say a few words about someone I have had the pleasure of working with. I am VP Finance and my advisor is Ann Truitt. When I took on this role, I wasn’t exactly sure what all was involved. I had just been initiated in the fall, and was still getting down the routine of going to study hours and chapter meetings (not to mention remembering to wear my badge). Taking on this position had me scared, but also excited to be more involved.

I was a little nervous about meeting with Ann, but as soon as I met her I was able to relax. She met me with a smile and immediately started helping me understand my duties, and how to execute them. It was a lot to take in, but she made it clear that I could contact her at any time with questions. She immediately started treating me as if I were her daughter. She asked which girls I was close to within our chapter, how my classes were going, and gave me tips about being safe when I go places by myself (especially at night). Now, every time she emails me, she asks how I am and how my week is going. The best part about that is that I know she genuinely cares.

One of the best experiences was this past Saturday at Founder’s Day. As soon as she saw me she exclaimed, “Do you want to see where I lived?!” It was amazing to be able to see exactly where she lived in the DG house in Fayetteville when she was in college. I don’t know how to thank her enough for her help. I am so glad that we all have people like her that support our chapter. Ann is only one of the many wonderful advisors we are grateful to have, but she is the one I work most closely with. Thank you ALL for EVERYTHING you do! Love,Ashley Stevenson

DG's participate in Homecoming

The Eta-Omicron chapter of Delta Gamma recently participated in the Homecoming activities on the UA Fort Smith campus. They created a banner ("It's hard to be humble when you're queen of the jungle."), created a float and rode in the parade, chanted at the "Yell like Hell" bonfire, and supported the Lions and our Queen candidates at the Homecoming game. Congratulations to Leah Climer and Charity Bilyeu who were Queen candidates. And a big congrats to Leah for be chosen as this year's Homecoming Queen!!

The DG's were very excited to have our CDC, Savannah Capito, in town to enjoy the Homecoming festivities with us. Savannah represented Delta Gamma in the facutly vs. students powerderpuff football game. Thanks Savannah and we wish you well on the rest of your CDC visits! We can't wait for you to come back!
