Hello everyone,
Eta O has had a very busy fall semester and we are excited to share all the great things we have been up to. Formal recruitment was September 8-11th and Eta O was proud to welcome 26 wonderful new members into our chapter. Since then we have been busy teaching our precious new members all about what it means to be a true Delta Gamma and showing off all the good we are doing to those on campus at UAFS. The new members of Eta Omicron are currently in the process of finding out who their Bigs are! Big/Little reveal is this weekend and the Littles have been receiving clues and presents all week from their Bigs. It is such an exciting time to be a New Member of Delta Gamma.
Our chapter is currently working hard on Homecoming, we are so excited to compete in the various competitions and have our beautiful sister Hayley Carter represent DG. Homecoming is October 15th which is also part of Alumni weekend, and to go along with that Eta O has many events planned for our very own Alumni. Our sisters cannot wait for our Alumni to come back and celebrate Homecoming weekend with us. CMT is also at work planning many events for the rest of the semester. We have mother/daughter day October 22nd & Anchor Slam October 27th.

Now that Eta O is back on schedule we will be updating more frequently and back to our sister of the week routine. Keep checking in on facebook for up to date pictures and post about day to day DG activities! Thanks for all of your continued support, we love you all!

Once you choose hope, anything is possible. Christopher Reeve

It's the mostt wonderful time of the yeaaaar- Recruitment Week!

Soo, we're all getting excited about Pi Chis coming back to us and NEW MEMBERS joining us on SUNDAAAY! Woohooooo! That being said, here's some important things you may want to read...

1. CHECK E-MAILS, CHECK E-MAILS, CHECK E-MAILS, ANDDD CHECK E-MAILS
- Really cannot stress this one enough. This is such an important part of making sure you are on top of all things regarding recruitment. Check your e-mail at breakfast, lunch, dinner, midnight snack, etc. CHECK YOUR E-MAILS!

2. FILL OUT SPONSORSHIP FORMS.
- If we want to have a successful recruitment, this NEEDS to get done. Allison has sent an e-mail (wow, look at that, an e-mail... maybe you should go check it!) and it has a list of PNMs AND the high school they attended! How convenient is that? Fillll em out, bring them to practice, which is WEDNESDAY AT 7.

3. DRESS REHEARSAL IS TOMORROW at 7 in the Campus Center.
- Bring your moms and smiling, recruitment ready faces!:)

4. CDC Courtney is flying into town today!
- Introduce yourself to her! Also, directors and VPs, check your e-mail to see what time you're meeting with her in the next week. Make her feel comfortable, invite her to hangout, don't keep her cooped up in the chapter room, that's no fun! I know you are all fun and outgoing girls!:)

5. ASK ALLISON IF YOU CAN HELP HER IN ANY WAY!
- She has sooooo much to do for recruitment, don't put it all on her! Would you like that? I bet not! Soo, help her as much as you possibly can!

6. Check, check, triple check, and check again.
- Make sure you know when you need to be at recruitment each day and what you have to wear! Don't be late because Blair WILL not spare anyone! Be there on time and ready to recruit!

7. WEAR YOUR LETTERS!
- This is the time to PR, only 2 days left until recruitment starts! WEAR THOSE LETTERS, LADIES!

I think that's alllll for now... Let's have a good week of school and a great week of recruitment!
I'll leave y'all with this quote...

"Go into the world and do well, but more importantly go into the world and DO GOOD!"

Helpful Tips for PNMs!:)

It’s that time of year again, formal recruitment has completely taken over our lives and we have all been preparing for one of the biggest weeks of the year (Well, for Greeks anyway).

Last year I was a PNM, so it’s a very welcomed change to be on the other side of the situation!

If you’re a PNM, here’s some advice:
Don’t be nervous, the members are just as nervous as you are, you’re the future of their organization.

  1. Be yourself.
  2. Be open-minded, try not to get stuck on going XYZ or worry about reputations, half of the things you hear are rumors.
  3. Have a positive attitude- If you’re happy to be there, that chapter is going to be happy to have you back.
  4. Don’t worry about awkward conversations, we’ve practiced for hours on end & have a surplus of questions to ask you.
  5. Ask questions! We want to see that you’re interested!

Hope that helps! Best of luck to all of my DG’s & other Panhellenic women out there preparing for or starting recruitment soon!!

Yayyyy, Hannah!

Our dear sister, Hannah McGowen, got engaged to her boyfriend, Blake Elliot, over the summer break! Hannah kept it a secret for so long, and everyone, including her big, Ashley Mitchell, was COMPLETELY surprised! I asked Hannah to tell us about to engagement and this is what she had to say:
Last Valentines day Blake had been hinting at proposing, but when the time finally came around he pulled out a candy ring pop! It was pretty funny, but I was frustrated, haha. So, this summer, we went to PCB and we had just eaten dinner with his family when he started complaining of a migraine. He left to go to "Walgreens" and I went to the beach with his family, and then we went to the pool at our resort. Blake came back and met us at the pool and asked me if I wanted to go for a walk on the beach. I told him I didn't really want to because I just got back from the beach. He begged and begged me to go with him so finally I gave in. We were walking on the beach and he was acting really nervous and fidgety! He started pouring his heart out to me and right when I think he is going to propose he pulls out a candy ring pop! At this point I am livid! Right as I am about to grab the ring pop and throw it, he opens it up and pulls a real ring out :). It was perfect! The diamond was his Great Grandmother's, which makes me feel REALLY special :)

Congrats Hannah and Blake! We're all so happy for you and excited for another Delta Gamma wedding! Love you sister! ItB!

Favorite DG memory - During my first recruitment I was the Director of Recruitment Records and a member of EVC. We stayed late every night after everyone went home. We even went to Judy's (an alumni) house to complete EVC stuff because the janitors kicked us out. Our alumnis are the best! When we were leaving I accidentally said, "I love you, Mom." to Judy because I was so tired. On pref night we waited and waited for our list of new sisters, falling asleep, until Mia (another alumni) ran into the room super excitedly. Amanda Chavez, Rebeka Holyfield, and I grabbed the list screaming with excitement. The hard work from everyone paid off. We got every member we wanted! Because we worked so close together, Amanda and I became super close and now I couldn't imagine my life without her.

Way to go Eta-O!

Three of our LOVELY sisters participated in the Inaugural Song Contest! All Delta Gamma collegiate and alumnae chapters were eligible to submit one song in each category. The song(s) that best represents Delta Gamma’s mission, values and pride in membership, and has premium sound quality, would be selected as the winner.

Ellie, Lauren, and one of our 2011 Pi Chi's played the songs they submitted to the contest for us one night at chapter. I don't know if everyone heard them, but I did and they were AWESOME! The girls worked sooo hard to get their songs in by the deadline in April.

Winners were announced a few days ago and what do you know, Eta O won the Spirit Award!

You girls did amazing and alllll of us are so proud! Way to put our little chapter on the map by doing good!:)

Well, would you look at that!

We should all know by now that if my head weren't attached to my body, I'd forget about it... justtt like I have forgotten about one HUGE event that took place this spring semester! Delta Gamma Fraternity received the top award given to a fraternity or sorority, the Chapter Excellence Trophy. To receive this award, Delta Gamma had to excel in almost every single award category offered. This would not have been possible without being the amazing, dedicated sisters that we are! Yay for Eta O!

Alsoooo, our own president, Emilee Higdon, won the Greek Woman of the Year award as well! Sooooo, now we have a Delta Gamma as Homecoming Queen, Miss UA-Fort Smith, Miss International AND Greek Woman of the Year! It's great to be a DG!

Time to Catch Up!

Wow! So, who remembered that we even had a blog with how busy we were this past semester?! It went by so fast, but as the saying goes, "Time flies when you're having fun!" And, boy, did we have a fun semester! Let's do a recap of all the great events that have taken place...

This past semester was FILLED with snow days! I think about seven...? None of which were wasted, though. We Southern Belles got to experience what a real winter season is like!

Oh, and what about Homecoming Week? Delta Gamma did good and participated in many different events such as Yell like Hell, a banner contest, and wagon parade! The weather was not the best, but we made the best of it! And our own, Kaci Singer, got Homecoming Queen! Woohoo!

This semester we also had the annual Miss University of Arkansas Fort Smith pageant. Delta Gamma, Rebecca Wheeley did wonderful and won the pageant last year and had to give her crown up this year. Delta Gamma had five participates - alllllll of them did SUCH an amazing job and represented Delta Gamma SO well! Congratulations to all the girls who competed and a special congrats to our own, Sarah Davis, who won the pageant!

Delta Gamma welcomed a beautiful, new COB class this past spring semester. We couldn't ask for better baby DG's! We also had a spring initiation, it was awesome getting to see our new sisters learn more about what it's really like to be a Delta Gamma!

In March, Greek Life participated in Greek Week 2011. The theme was Around the World in 8 Ways. Delta Gamma selected the country of Jamaica! We all had a blast participating in events like quiz bowl, tug of war, and a tailgate filled with lots of yummmmmy food from all around the world! Overall Delta Gamma placed 4th, but Hayley Davis won Miss International! So, correct me if I'm wrong, but this means that the 2011 Homecoming Queen, Miss University of Arkansas Fort Smith 2011, and Miss International 2011 are ALL Delta Gamma's! It's been a great semester to wear the golden anchor!

We ended the year with semi-formal, which was so much fun! Kaci Singer and her crew did such an amazing job putting together the "Bow-Tie Ball"! There were cute bow-tie cookies, cute decorations, cute dresses, and cute boys in their bow-ties! Overall it was a good time for everyone! Anddd we voted Mr. Hunter K. Cabe from Kappa Alpha Order our Anchorman! Yay, Hunter!

So, overall, it's been a fun-filled semester for the ladies of the Eta Omicron chapter of Delta Gamma! Right now we're in recruitment mode trying to prepare for the welcoming of new, beautiful women in the Fall! We're going to try to update this blog a lot more often, so, keep checking back to see how we're doing! Hope everyone is having a happy and safe summer!:)
